Sources for our Favorite Emergency Gear

Buy local if you can.  A great place is the Lincoln City Electronic Store.  They have been incredibly supportive of the Lincoln County CERT program.  If on a budget, try the local Dollar Stores.  You'd be surprised at what you can find there!  If you find a local store that has supplies let us know.

Links are also provided for these supplies on Amazon if you can't find them local.

  • Sawyer Water Filter  -- Filters up to 100,000 gallons of water at 0.1 Microns
  • Tube Tent
  • Emergency Food Bars -- There are several brands to select from.  Remember ... you are planning on a lifeboat ... not a cruise ship!
  • Mylar Emergency Blanket
  • Crank flashlight -- No batteries needed.  There are lots of styles and brands.  Some work better than others.  This one is Kay's favorite
  • Dollar Store supplies - only $1 each!
    • Large  black trash bags - Use as a poncho, rain cover, etc.
    • Shower curtains - work as a tarp, or rain cover.
    • Travel size duct tape - helps to fasten your shower curtains into a tent or cover
    • Gloves - protect your hands and keep them warm!
    • Six pack of water
    • Dust masks - Dust is common after an earthquake and can cause health problems later
    • Facial tissues - Buy lots of the small packets.  They work great for toilet paper too!  If you drop a large toilet roll on the ground you lose the roll.  If you drop a small tissue packet on the ground you have lots of other packets.
    • Hand Wipes
    • Hand Sanitizer
    • Vinyl gloves (pack of 10)
    • Flashlight and extra batteries
    • Light stick - usually last from 6 to 12 hours.  Store well.
    • Assorted Safety Pins
    • Sewing Kit
    • Scissors
    • Large snap blade utility knife with extra blades
    • Cigarette lighters - Be careful if you light a fire for warmth or cooking
    • Paper and pencils
    • Manual can opener - Remember no electricity for your fancy one!
    • Deck of playing cards -- Something to keep you or kids busy while waiting for the tsunami to subside
    • Laundry bag -- If you are on a budget you can put all your emergency supplies into a laundry bag instead of a backpack!
